quicksilver

the project involved creating a still photograph image sequence to replace written elements of a narrative, yet conveying the same information. as a rst step, i looked at multiple story lines and tried converting them into images by laying them along a timeline. representing concrete words or events in time, with images gave the end product an erratic feel. looking to simplify the storyline, i realized that i needed to pick something which would be harder to convey in words itself. the story that i nally chose shows the ckleness of emotions in a child, hence named ‘quicksilver’—a topic which would be wordy to convey but is very compact when seen in images. i laid out all the images of my son beginning to cry until he stopped crying and composed himself again. starting with a large number of images laid out along the timeline, i omitted those images which conveyed the same emotions, and added back images to maintain continuity at di erent points. the nal product was a one minute quicktime video capturing the image sequence.
